Staying sane with Virtual Fieldtrips!

Museums are responding

Many museums are allowing virtual visits that let you tour the museums and view art online. Some have guided digital experiences and online learning opportunities for kids.

The Smithsonian Institution is providing virtual gallery tours of its museums, educational resources, and webcasts. Choose an exhibit and click “view online” to explore.

You can visit more than 1000 other museums from around the world at this website https://artsandculture.google.com/partner?hl=en It shares the tools of Google Maps software. I took the opportunity to visit the Palace of Versailles. 😊 You can visit one museum a day and still have bunches that you won’t get through before the stay at home orders are lifted! Some of you that aren’t as adventurous on your computer may be challenged to learn new skills to fully enjoy the online exhibits. Be patient with yourself as you learn how to view in full screen mode and zoom in on items. Library staff are happy to help with such techniques!

Oklahoma’s Philbrook Museum is sharing images of the museum and its collections and engaging its community with art related discussions and a concert series on social media.

The New York Botanic Garden is sharing the beauty of spring in the garden through their NYBG at Home that includes virtual garden walks and a plant talk blog. I was surprised by all the flowering shrubs on the spring walk video.

If zoos are more your thing-

The Cincinnati Zoo is producing daily home safari videos for people to get to know the animals that live there.

The San Diego Zoo has live video cams so you can watch your favorite animals.

I’ve long been a fan of the National Arboretum Eagle Cam.

Some more great live animal cams from the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
